SIAK, September 15, 2026 — Siak Regency is once again blanketed by thick haze. Although a joint team has successfully extinguished several forest and land fire hotspots in the Siak area, the dense haze persists, limiting visibility for residents. According to the latest Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) data released by the Siak Communication and Informatics Agency, air quality in several districts ranges from "Unhealthy" to "Very Unhealthy." The highest ISPU readings were recorded in the Minas and Tualang districts. Wind Movement and Transboundary Smoke Ihsan Abdillah, Head of Operations for Manggala Agni Sumatra VI (Siak), explained that the persistent haze is caused by wind moving from south to north, carrying smoke from surrounding areas into Siak. "Forest and land fires are a cross-regional issue. Smoke moves according to atmospheric dynamics, so the fact that fires have been extinguished in a specific location does not mean air quality immediately returns to normal," Ihsan said. Impact on Education and Health Advisories: The lack of improvement in air quality has raised concerns among residents, particularly parents. The Siak Regency Government has urged schools in severely affected areas to consider implementing remote learning schemes and to limit outdoor physical activities. The Health Agency advises the public to wear standard masks when outdoors, increase water intake, and reduce strenuous outdoor physical activity—especially for children, the elderly, and sensitive groups. Law Enforcement Regarding Forest and Land Fires The Siak District Police have reaffirmed their commitment to taking firm action against those responsible for land burning. Police have currently named several suspects in connection with forest and land fire cases and are continuing legal proceedings to prevent a recurrence of such disasters.
